The growth in reading groups is one of the most exciting features of the literary scene in recent years - several of the New Romantics are members of local book groups. And individuals who can't find a group locally are increasingly using the internet, via sites like wwwbookclubforum.co.uk and www.lovereading.co.uk to discover new titles and discuss their passion for reading.
One thing we have noticed is that love stories and romantic comedies don't always get a look in - and as writers of contemporary commercial fiction, we're interested in stimulating a debate about our genre too. So, we're suggesting that if you're a reading group member, you might consider choosing one of our books (or books by our contemporaries) for one of your slots?
All of our members have contributed either a readers' guide or extra material on the website to give a starting point for discussion and demonstrate that popular fiction titles can stimulate interesting debates. So whether you're a reader seeking background about our books, or a reading group member wondering what topics might be explored at your meeting, have a browse. (more here about the guides once they've been written).
As part of this, we'll soon be launching our Share the Love campaign where we're suggesting broader questions you might discuss, including the differences between contemporary romantic fiction and the classics: the question of what constitutes a love story: and even the thorny debate around whether romantic fiction has any role beyond pure entertainment.
